The History of Scripps Ranch
Scripps Ranch originated in the 1890s. Edward W. Scripps, a newspaper tycoon, purchased 2,000 acres of land and named it Scripps Miramar Ranch. He built an impressive 47-room mansion, which was surrounded by quaint gardens and beautiful eucalyptus trees. These trees still spread throughout the community today.
Actual residential community plans for Scripps Ranch started in the 1970’s with fewer than 100 residential units. Now, it is a prosperous community with over 7,200 houses, 6,500 single-family homes, and 1,000 condos and apartments.
Type of Housing
Scripps Ranch offers homes in safe, quiet residential neighborhoods. Most of the housing resembles modern suburban styles of upper-middle class homes.
Scripps Ranch contains affluent neighborhoods with large, expensive homes. The community also offers housing of all types, including single-family homes, condos, and apartments.
Scripps Ranch is located to the east of the I-15. There is easy access throughout San Diego County by using Ted Williams Parkway and I-15. Scripps Ranch is close to Downtown San Diego and the San Diego International Airport. Park and Ride systems are available in several areas of the community.
Schools in the area are part of San Diego City Schools. Scripps Ranch is well-known for having excellent educational facilities. The community has numerous elementary schools, Thurgood Marshall Middle School, and Scripps Ranch High School.
Higher education availability exists in the area at the Alliant International University Scripps Ranch location. Alliant offers a number of degree options for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Scripps Ranch offers many parks and playgrounds within residential neighborhoods, lovely ponds, and hiking trails. Miramar Lake, a popular walking and fishing spot, offers residents a serene place to relax in a beautiful setting.
Several parks and community centers provide an array of activities from sports to the weekly Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market. The Scripps Ranch Theatre entertains residents with performances on the weekends. There is something for everyone in Scripps Ranch.
