Mira Mesa is a very unique and diverse community. Mira Mesa is home to over 70,000 middle- and upper-class residents. The community offers an assortment of shopping, fantastic ethnic restaurants, community parks, schools, and recreation centers for people of all ages.
Many biotechnology and high technology companies also operate in the community. Mira Mesa is located on just south of the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, west of Scripps Ranch, and east of Sorrento Mesa. Mira Mesa is still growing and thriving, with new housing developments and new commercial developments for businesses. The community provides almost everything that a resident could ever want.
The History of Mira Mesa
Mira Mesa’s beginnings started during the 1950s. The increased need for housing was due to the growing use of the military base located in Miramar.
Mira Mesa soon took off to become one of San Diego’s fastest growing and blossoming communities. The community has continued to prosper through the years. Currently, it is the largest community in San Diego.
Type of Housing
Mira Mesa offers many different types of housing for single families, and students. Older homes in Mira Mesa were developed in the 1960s, but building never stopped.
Newer neighborhoods are still popping up around the community. Mira Mesa offers different types of housing including single-family homes, condominiums, apartments, and town houses.
Mira Mesa is located conveniently between the Interstate 15 and Interstate 805. Mira Mesa residents enjoy easy access to anywhere in San Diego County.
The community is served by the San Diego Coaster commuter train in Sorrento Valley. The Coaster provides a fast and convenient way to ride south to San Diego or north to the coastal communities.
Mira Mesa is located only 20 minutes from the San Diego International Airport and Downtown San Diego. Park and Ride systems offer public transportation for commuters, as well as bus routes.
San Diego City Schools (SDCS) provides education for residents of Mira Mesa. Mira Mesa offers some of the most distinguished schools within San Diego County. Mira Mesa High School has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.
Mira Mesa is also home to Miramar College, which has been acclaimed for its various vocational programs.
Mira Mesa is full of activities for residents and visitors of all ages. Numerous community and neighborhood parks are spread throughout the area with activities ranging from Mira Mesa West Little League to ultimate frisbee. The area also has a popular bowling alley, Mira Mesa Lanes, the San Diego Ice Arena, and an aquatic center.
Every year, the Mira Mesa Street Fair is held on the first Saturday of October just west of the Mira Mesa Community Park. It is a wonderful place to socialize with the community in a fun filled festival atmosphere. They provide entertainment, food and exhibits featuring arts & crafts and local businesses.
Youngsters can hang out or see concerts by popular performers at the Epicentre. Mira Mesa also has a senior center for the older generation.
